Julia Letlow has secured the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate race in Louisiana, defeating state Treasurer John Fleming in a runoff on Saturday (June 27). Letlow, who received an endorsement from President Donald Trump, is projected to win the primary, marking another victory for Trump's slate of preferred candidates.

Letlow's victory effectively ensures that another Trump ally will join the Senate ranks next year from the deep-red state. In her victory speech, Letlow expressed gratitude for Trump's endorsement, calling him "the greatest president this country has ever had." She also pledged to fight for various community groups, including families, farmers, and law enforcement.

Trump's endorsement played a significant role in Letlow's campaign, boosting her position among GOP primary voters. Letlow emphasized her support for Trump's policies, including eliminating the Senate filibuster to pass the Save America Act, a measure to overhaul U.S. election laws.

Fleming, who campaigned on his support for a "pro-Trump agenda," conceded the race, acknowledging the healthy democratic process. He had previously served in the Trump administration and as a state treasurer.

On the Democratic side, Jamie Davis, a farmer, won the Democratic primary and will face Letlow in the general election in November. Despite the Democratic win, Louisiana's strong Republican leanings make Letlow the favorite in the upcoming election.

This year's primaries are the first since Louisiana moved away from its "jungle primary" system. The November election will be open to all voters, with no-party voters able to choose any candidate on the ballot.
