Ford Motor Company is recalling nearly 200,000 Mustang Mach E electric SUVs due to a potential issue with the door latches. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the recall affects 197,432 vehicles from model years 2021 to 2025. The problem involves the electronic door latches, which may remain locked after the driver or front seat passenger exits the vehicle, potentially trapping passengers in the back seat. This poses a safety risk, especially for children or others unable to use the interior door releases.
Ford plans to address the issue by updating the vehicles' software. The remedy is expected to be available by late September. Meanwhile, the NHTSA has scheduled letters to notify owners of the safety risk to be sent out on Monday (June 23).
Owners of the affected vehicles can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, using the recall number 25S65. They can also reach out to the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information.
