An explosion rocked Palm Springs, California, on Saturday (May 17), causing significant damage to buildings and scattering debris along North Indian Canyon Drive. The incident occurred just before noon near East Tachevah Drive, as confirmed by the City of Palm Springs on Facebook.

According to NBC News, a car exploded, causing a massive blast that shattered windows in nearby businesses, causing glass and debris to litter the streets. The American Reproductive Centers suffered significant damage in the blast. The facility provides IVF services and does not provide abortions.

Emergency services, including the Palm Springs Police Department and Fire Department, quickly responded to the scene. They have urged residents to avoid the area to allow crews to manage the situation effectively. According to the Palm Springs Police Department's active call log, there were multiple medical service responses on the 1100 block of North Palm Canyon Drive starting just before 11 a.m. local time.

There are reports that at least one person was killed and five others were injured in the blast.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, and the Palm Springs Police Department, along with other agencies like the California Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), are involved in the ongoing inquiry. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office has stated that it is not responding to the incident.
