Hunter Biden's Taxes Under Investigation By Federal Prosecutors In Delaware

Democrats Hold Unprecedented Virtual Convention From Milwaukee

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Delaware is investigating Hunter Biden over his "tax affairs." Hunter, the son of President-elect Joe Biden, acknowledged the probe and said he is confident that he will be exonerated following the investigation.

"I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney's Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs," Hunter Biden said in a statement. "I take this matter very seriously, but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors."

According to CNN, investigators are looking into whether Hunter and his associates violated tax and money laundering laws in business dealings with Chinese companies.

The investigation was launched in 2018 and was put on the backburner during the presidential election campaign due to a Justice Department policy that prohibits actions that could affect the outcome of an election.

Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle have had dealings with the IRS over unpaid taxes. According to CNBCthe pair had an IRS lien totaling $112,805.09 placed on them in November 2019. They settled the lien this past March. Tax officials in Washington, D.C. issued a $453,890 lien on Biden on July 9, but the lien was dropped six days later.

Authorities have refused to comment on the investigation.

"Per DOJ [Department of Justice] policy, we cannot comment on an ongoing investigation," Kim Reeves, a spokeswoman for David Weiss, the U.S. attorney for Delaware, said.
