Man At Center Of Death Penalty Case Pleads Guilty

(Wilmington, DE) -- The man whose case prompted the state Supreme Court to overturn Delaware 's death penalty is pleading guilty. Former Temple University law student Benjamin Rauf pleaded to manslaughter and weapons charges in the death of classmate Shazim Uppal, who was found dead in New Castle County in 2015. The "News Journal" reports the judge in the case sought guidance from the High Court after prosecutors said they would pursue the death penalty.  The move came because of a similar case in Florida, where the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against a law allowing capital punishment without a unanimous vote from the jury.
