Gun Owner Helps Cops Stop Armed Suspect Who Opened Fire On Officers

Authorities in Illinois are thanking a civilian who intervened and helped police take down a fleeing suspect who had opened fire on officers. Police in Cicero, which is a suburb of Chicago, tried to pull over a motor vehicle, but the driver sped away and attempted to get onto the highway. The officers managed to box the car in on the entrance ramp to the highway, but the driver got out and fled on foot.

As officers gave chase, the suspect opened fire with an automatic weapon, striking one of the cops. While the shootout was going on, a civilian who had a concealed carry permit jumped out of his vehicle and started firing at the unidentified man.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken into custody. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is listed in serious, but stable condition. The officer who was shot was taken to the hospital after being hit four times in the arm, leg, and abdomen. He is expected to make a full recovery.

“We were lucky enough to have a citizen on the street there who is a conceal carry holder, and he engaged in gunfire with the suspect," Cicero Police Superintendent Jerry Chlada Jr. said.
